Biohit mLine Pipette Review
Rating: 5 out of 5
Purchased: 2006, (set of 3: 20µl, 200µl and 1000µl)
Reviewed: 2010
I have had these pipettes for over 4 years now, and I can honestly say that they are the best pipettes I have used. When I saw the graph on Biohit’s website regarding the tip ejection and pipetting forces, indicating that the mLine series was significantly lower than other brands, I was skeptical, but the severe pain in my right wrist was demanding that I buy something to replace the (horrible) Eppendorf pipettes I was using. Thankfully, that chart is spot on. The mLine is light weight, and a nice size in the hand, while the pipetting force is the lowest by such a noticeable margin that I no longer have any wrist/hand pain at all.
The fact that they were also the cheapest (at least out of Eppendorf and Gilson) was an added bonus.
I have not had any significant issues with using standard pipette tips with these, although the free pack of Biohit tips that came with the set were a bit better as they were a little longer and provided a touch more room between the end of the pipette and the liquid.
The other major benefit I have come across is the up keep, which has been very minimal. While I regally clean and check the accuaracy of these pipettes, I’ve been extremely slack and have not yet bothered to have these professionally re-calibrated yet. Combined with my rough handling (dropping etc etc) I am surprised at how well these have coped. They are still doing great after 4 years. They are also a lot easier to clean than a Gilson, as there is no small parts or o-rings that can be easily lost.
All that is left to say is that these should be at the top of anyones shopping list.
Positives:
- Super light weight and ergonomic in the hand
- Lightest ejection and pipetting force on the market
- Cheap
- Very easy to clean (no o-rings etc), and autoclavable
- Easy to calibrate
- Stays accurate over time
- Takes plenty of punishment
- Came with a free stand and packs of tips.
Negatives:
- None so far !
We have several Biohit multipipettes and on almost all of them the tip ejector falls off at use. Have you enountered this?
Very sorry to hear this… I only have the single channel mLine pipettes and have not had an issue with these.
